Community First Responders (CFRs) are trained volunteers who respond alongside the ambulance service to 999 emergencies around where they live and work. Since we are usually within just a few miles of the emergency, we do not use blue lights and respond in our own vehicles. Despite this, we still usually beat ambulance crews to the scene.
We carry life saving equipment, including defibrillators, oxygen, drugs for asthma attacks and heart attacks. Often being first on scene, this enables us to give immediate life saving care and assistance in the critical minutes after a 999 call has been made.
